The International Baseball Federation (IBAF) is the former world regulatory body recognized by the International Olympic Committee for overseeing, with, deciding and executing the policy of the sport of baseball. Since then, the IBAF has become the international baseball "Division" of the World Baseball Softball Confederation, the officially recognized global governing body for baseball (and softball). One of his main responsibilities under the WBSC umbrella is to organize (through partnerships with, standardize and sanction international competitions, using the WBSC name, among baseball's 124 national regulatory bodies through its various tournaments (in partnership with to determine a world champion and calculate world rankings for men's and women's baseball. Prior to the establishment of the WBSC, which has since replaced its authority, the IBAF was the only entity that can award the title of "world champion" to any baseball team delegated to represent a nation.
